Hello and thanks for visiting.
I’m Kristina Brooke, a mom, a writer, a teacher, a web designer, and an entrepreneur; I wear many hats. I have a Masters of Science in Teaching from Fordham University, and a Bachelor’s of Science in English from the State University of New York, College at Oneonta. I am a seasoned web designer and developer, a lifelong learner, lover of books. Most recently, I have served as Creative Director and Lead Designer/Developer on numerous projects including personal websites, corporate websites, and local government web projects.
After teaching English Language Arts for 5 years in a high school in the Bronx, New York, frustration, frequent illness, and anxiety compelled me to leave and work towards living the life that I has always dreamed of creating. I wanted to run a business and I wanted to focus on homeschooling my daughter as I firmly believe that until there is true educational reform, our children don’t stand a chance in the overcrowded, under-staffed, test-centered schools of today.
I’ve struggled with depression and anxiety for much of my life and in some ways, I find that it is worse now than ever before. As a mom I have a lot more to worry about and I’m juggling more balls than I probably should. At the urging of my therapist, I am writing a lot more (you can read my personal musings at kristinabrooke.net). It’s what I need to do to help work though all of the challenges that I face on a daily basis.
Despite the previous paragraph, I am actually a very happy person. I enjoy spending time with my friends and family. I love reading, and playing video games, and cooking, and in some ways exercising. I was lucky enough to have met my husband in college and we have cultivated a friendship that has sustained us through some hard times. And I believe that I was lucky enough to have my daughter at a time when the world was beginning to make sense to me. Timing is everything!
